World Book Day

The Linden School celebrates reading

On April 25 and 26, the fourth grade went on an excursion to the Gronau public library, where an interesting guided tour awaited the pupils. After Mrs. Feldmann's detailed and interesting explanations, the children had plenty of time to browse, discover and read. After the visit to the public library, they went straight to the bookshop, where the fourth graders were able to solve tricky puzzles in a scavenger hunt. At the end, the diligent sleuths were delighted with the book "Mission Robot", which was given to them by the bookshop to mark World Book Day.

This year, however, it wasn't just the fourth-grade pupils who were delighted to receive a book gift on World Book Day. Thanks in part to a large donation of great children's books from the city library's collection, every pupil at Lindenschule was able to choose their own book on April 23, 2024 and take it home as a personal book treasure. The girls and boys were amazed at the large selection of children's books and their eyes lit up when they finally left the room with their own book in hand. For many of the children, this was their first book of their own and they were particularly delighted.

Even during the breaks, the books were taken into the schoolyard and read.

On Friday, 26.04.2024, the week ended with another highlight: the school's support association invited all pupils to an exciting reading evening. From 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the children were read to in a cozy atmosphere from children's books previously selected by the girls and boys.

During the first reading time, the children had the choice between an Arabic, Turkish, English, Dutch and a Ukrainian children's book. The stories were read aloud by parents, staff and even a former pupil of the Lindenschule.

For the break, the support association had prepared delicious popcorn, pretzels and drinks for the children.

After the break, the children continued in new small groups. This time, the children listened to exciting, funny, thrilling and interesting stories from German children's books. Here, too, the pupils had previously selected the corresponding story themselves.

All books are part of the school library so that every child has the opportunity to borrow the book again at a later date and read it themselves.

Reading to the children was great fun for everyone involved.

We would like to thank the Linden School Support Association and especially Ms. Wachholz, Ms. Kosel and Ms. Kernebeck for this great event! Many thanks to all those who helped to make this special experience possible for the pupils of the Lindenschule.

We continue to call on all families to make reading aloud a regular part of everyday life at home. Reading aloud is not just a wonderful shared experience. Reading aloud also inspires children for language and other worlds of thought and awakens their desire to read. Reading aloud also promotes fundamental skills that are of central importance for a child's development. Vocabulary is increased, the ability to concentrate is improved and imagination and creativity are encouraged.
