At the Lindenschule, reading promotion has a special focus and, in addition to daily reading time, reading is also regularly celebrated with various activities.
Every school year, numerous guests visit to read funny, exciting and informative books to the pupils on the occasion of the nationwide Read Aloud Day.

In the last few days, for example, Chief Superintendent Meyer and Police Director Schmitt visited Year 1 and Year 2 to read exciting police stories to the pupils. In other classes, parents took time in the mornings to read aloud from various children's books in small groups. Further special reading events are planned this year in cooperation with various guests.

This year, the reading evening, which is offered to the pupils every year in close cooperation with the Linden School's support association, fell exactly on the nationwide Reading Aloud Day. Participation was voluntary for the children and we are delighted that so many pupils once again took advantage of the great offer last Friday.

Beforehand, each child had chosen two books from a selection of different children's books. Many parents responded to the school's call and agreed to read to the children from these books. The motto of this year's nationwide Read Aloud Day is part of our school's program every year. Reading aloud in different languages supports the versatility of reading aloud and makes it clear that every single language and voice is important.

This year, the pupils had the choice between children's books in Aramaic, Dutch, Polish, Turkish and Ukrainian. In the first reading time, the stories in the languages of origin were the focus of the reading evening. Here the children had the choice between Die Raupe Nimmersatt, Frederick, Mama Muh schaukelt, Arthur und Anton, Freunde gibt es überall and the book Der schlaue kleine Elefant. The children listened to the text of the same story alternately in German and the other language. The stories were read aloud by parents and staff from the Lindenschule.

For the break, the support association under the direction of Ms. Wachholz and Ms. Kernebeck had prepared delicious popcorn, pretzels and drinks for the children. The children were very happy about this great free offer.
After 30 minutes, the storytelling continued in new small groups. This time, the children listened intently to the stories of the LAMA gang, the girl Willow, a text from The School of Magical Animals, the story Mitgehangen, mitgefangen and from the diary of a killer cat. Of course, only excerpts from these exciting, funny and imaginative books could be read aloud that evening. However, all the books are part of the school library, so that every pupil has the opportunity to borrow the book at school and read it for themselves.
Reading to the children was once again a great pleasure for everyone involved and there were happy faces everywhere.
We would like to thank the Friends of the Linden School and all those who contributed to making this special experience for the pupils of the Linden School possible again this year.

We are also calling on all families to make reading aloud a regular part of everyday life at home. The high level of participation in this voluntary activity shows how much children enjoy being read to.
Stiftung Lesen provides a wealth of information and material for reading aloud under the link einfach vorlesen! Every Friday, Stiftung Lesen publishes three new stories to read aloud free of charge under this link Home page - simply read aloud!
Reading aloud is not just an enjoyable shared experience. Reading aloud creates positive reading experiences, promotes language development as well as cognitive and emotional development. Reading aloud therefore promotes fundamental skills that are of central importance for a child's development.
