The children are currently working on the topic of "waste and recycling" in their science lessons and a visit to the recycling center allowed them not only to deepen their knowledge, but also to experience it with all their senses.

The children were warmly welcomed by the staff on site. It quickly became clear that there was a lot to discover here! In small groups, the children were allowed to get active and sort their own garbage. Where do plastic lids belong? What happens to old electrical appliances? - The pupils set to work with great enthusiasm.
The children also visited the huge halls with their impressive mountains of waste - a real eye-opener that made it clear how much waste is produced every day.
A special highlight and a great opportunity for practical math in everyday life: How much do all the children in the class weigh together? The girls and boys guessed, estimated and calculated. The weight of the whole class was then determined with great excitement on the large truck scales.

At the end, the children were able to get creative themselves: New paper was created from old paper - a great experience that made the idea of recycling tangible in a creative way.
We would like to thank the team at the recycling center in Gescher for this eventful day and the child-friendly, committed guidance!
