Successful Bicycle Safety Test for Third Graders

Road safety advisors Jan-Hendrik Tonke and Stefan Benölken had already briefed parents and guardians about the upcoming bicycle training during an informational afternoon session. They also accompanied the children on the first day of training and worked with the teachers to prepare the children for the practical exam. During the subsequent practice sessions, the students also received active support from numerous parents.

On the day of the test, the two traffic safety advisors were once again on site, observing the children at various stations along the test route. Many parents and guardians also helped out again. After receiving instructions on what to look for, the volunteers were stationed at various points along the route. They observed whether the girls and boys were able to confidently apply the traffic rules they had learned on each section of the route.

After all the students in classes 3a and 3b had completed their road test, police officers, parents, guardians, and teachers met for a joint debriefing.

For many children, this day was very exciting and filled with nervous anticipation. This made the final outcome all the more wonderful: All of them passed the cycling test with great dedication and a strong sense of responsibility. The road safety advisors had nothing but praise for them—both for the students and for the dedicated parents, guardians, and school staff.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers, without whose dedicated efforts the bicycle training program could not have been carried out in this manner. We would also like to thank the traffic safety advisors from the Borken district, Jan-Hendrik Tonke and Stefan Benölken, for their active support during the bicycle training and the bicycle proficiency test.

We hope all children have lots of fun riding their bikes and, above all, stay safe on the road.
