The numerous events were planned and carried out with great passion by the Fairtrade Steering Group and many other dedicated individuals in Gronau and Epe.
On September 16, 2026, a fair-trade breakfast was served at Café Grenzenlos, and Mr. Beier, Ms. Bröckel, and the parent representatives of the Lindenschule’s fair-trade school team—Ms. Pyziak—were also invited to attend.
The “Fair Storefronts” campaign ran from September 11 to 25, 2026. In stores in downtown Gronau and Epe, preschoolers and schoolchildren were invited to decorate “fair” store windows. There, the children demonstrated how they are exploring the topic of Fairtrade and what matters to them. Fairtrade and sustainability are closely linked. This is becoming evident in many institutions and is gaining in importance. Children learn firsthand that our everyday decisions have an impact on people and the environment, and that everyone can contribute to a fairer and more sustainable world.
The students at Lindenschule were given the opportunity to design a “display window” at the tourist information center in Gronau. The children had been learning about fair-trade cotton and sustainable consumption, and in a creatively designed area of the tourist information center, they demonstrated how valuable raw materials can be conserved and unnecessary waste avoided. We’re very happy to have had this wonderful opportunity and would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the team at the tourist information center!
A highlight of Fair Trade Week was Fair World Children’s Day on September 18 at Kurt-Schumacher-Platz. Together with daycare centers, schools, and numerous organizations from Gronau and Epe, the city put together a colorful family program featuring games, creative activities, informational booths, and music.
From face painting and creative activities to physical activities, group games, and healthy treats, all the way to information booths, there was plenty for visitors of all ages to discover. Our computer science game with Bee-Bots was also a featured part of the official program. Together with our Bee-Bots, children from the club, Mr. Koch, Ms. Neumann, and Ms. Pyziak, Lindenschule was once again represented with its own booth. The small, programmable floor robots sparked curiosity and a love of play in young and old alike. In this way, our activity playfully combined education, technology, collaborative experimentation, and the joy of learning.
Not even the cloudy sky and the wind could dampen the good mood. People tried things out, played, laughed, and chatted with one another.
Fair Trade Week has once again shown that fair trade is about more than just buying fair trade products. It’s about responsibility, sustainability, building connections, and the question of how we want to shape our future together.
As a school committed to fairness, we want to give our Linden children opportunities not only to learn about these connections in class, but also to discover them for themselves, help shape them, and experience them in their everyday lives.
We would like to thank the Gronau Fairtrade Steering Committee, all the organizers, our students, staff, and parents, as well as everyone whose dedication made Fair Trade Week such a special experience.
The team at Lindenschule is very pleased that the network of “fair” educational institutions in Gronau continues to grow. We congratulate the team at Grüne Aue Elementary School, which is now another “fair” school in our city.
